Calling the Super Bowl just another football game is like calling a 255 mph Bergatti Veyron just another family sedan. This is the big one, the best of the best slugging it out in the climate controlled confines of the huge Cowboy Stadium in Dallas. Even the commercials are special and guaranteed to keep attention rivited to the TV screen.
Bettors are flooding into Las Vegas with bags of cash and according to sports book operators most of that green is being wagered on Green Bay. Odds makers have the Pack as a 2 1/2 point favorite, making this one of the closest “Big Games” in years, even though the early bettors think it’s a one horse race. Vegas sports books believe the late money will mostly favor Pittsburg and balance the lopsided action. One of the Las Vegas books moved the line to Greenbay -3 but quickly went back to -2 1/2 after taking in a bundle of Pittsburg wagers.
Las Vegas book operators don’t expect the betting total to surpass the record $94.5 million bet on the 2006 Super Bowl featuring the Pittsburg Steelers, but should surpass last year’s almost $83 million handle. Regardless of the games outcome this is a win-win day for everyone – football fans, players, TV audiences, sports books, advertisers, airlines, beer sellers, avocado growers, the city of Las Vegas and the NFL.
We’ll be at the original mega sports book, the Las Vegas Hilton’s Superbook, the sports book that moved sports betting from the outback to center stage. Where else can you find 200 prop bets to consider?
