JAMIE GOLD AND THE GIANT PRIZE
We should know who gets the $6 million being held under court order at the Rio Resort after Thursday. The money is the disputed half of the 2006 WSOP Main Event Championship purse. The event which paid $12 million to winner Jamie Gold, may award the disputed half to Crespin Leyser depending on the decision from U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt following a Thursday, December 21, hearing in Las Vegas. Should the Judge give the money to Leyser then Jamie Gold becomes the biggest welcher in the history of tournament poker. We have all heard the tape recording from the answering machine plus the sound bites from the radio interview where Gold apparently promises Leyser a share of the purse but we will have to wait and see what the Judge thinks. Either way, Jamie Gold has become a liability to the game of poker and just when poker was becoming an honorable pursuit.
