Early morning gamblers play in the Rio Resort Casino in Las Vegas
A few minutes before 5 AM on Thursday morning the offstrip Rio Resort Hotel & Casino was robbed at gunpoint. According to Las Vegas Metro Police the thief entered the casino, approached a gaming table and began grabbing chips from the table’s bank. When the dealer slapped his hands away from the box the crook pulled his weapon and continued the heist. The robber then exited the casino and left the property in a taxi. There were no reported injuries during the stick-up.
Caesars Entertainment, owner of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, is reporting the thief got away with just over $30,000 in casino chips in $1,00, $500, $100 and $25 denominations. Las Vegas Metro Police located the taxi driver who said he didn’t know the man had just committed a crime and dropped him at Terrible’s Hotel & Casino on East Flamingo Road.
The suspect is described as a white man in his forties wearing a tan jacket, sunglasses and a fedora style hat. He had a mustache although witnesses believed it was a fake.
Ironically, Anthony Carleo, the suspect accused in the $1.5 million holdup of the Bellagio Casino in December was in court in Las Vegas on Wednesday and remained in the jail Thursday morning after the judge set a $1 million bail.
