One of the last showgirl shows in Las Vegas will soon close.
Onstage at Tropicana for almost 50 years, “Folies Bergere” is expected to seat its last customer on March 28, a time of mourning that will unintendedly be commemorated by Las Vegas turning its lights off for 1 hour (for Earth Hour).
Inspired by the Paris show of the same name (the nude show which opened in 1918), Folies Bergere was one of the first topless shows in Las Vegas and considered quite daring when it opened in 1959.
But like most of Las Vegas’ gambling, tourists, and hotel rooms, audience occupancy has been down, and the show cannot go on.
