On Jan 21 at 1 p.m., The Plaza holds the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Burger Eating Contest, the biggest and most challenging eating event from the International Federation of Competitive Eating.
The current champ to beat is Sonya Thomas, who at 5’5″ and 100 pounds, is a bit smaller than the burger, which itself weighs in at a hefty nine pounds.
Last year, Thomas (also known as The Black Widow) devoured the Big Daddy in 48 minutes and 10 seconds. She’ll be back to defend her title.
Thomas is the first-ranked eater in the country, but she faces Rich LeFevre (known as The Locust), a Vegas resident and sxith-ranked eater in the world. He packed away 10 pounds of chili in 10 minutes.
A whopping $12,000 in prize money will be up for grabs, with $4,000 for 1st place.
A smaller, amateur warmup match begins at noon with 1.5 pounds of burger, awarding $800 for 1st place.
A couple friendly tips:
1) a variety of antacids are available in the gift shop.
2) avoid the restrooms right after the event.
