I shot photos of Mickey and Mickey Mills at the 2004 World Series of Poker, the last WSOP Tournament held at Binion’s Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas. The big poker show did return to Binion’s sans Horseshoe in 2005 for the final three days then made the quantum leap to uptown Vegas and the corporate suite. Televised major tournament poker has been riding the crest of a Tsunami created by the world wide web community’s acceptance of poker. The rapid rise of poker to become the world’s favorite interactive sport is a genuine dot.com ultra-success story. Real money poker (is there any other kind?) has proven to be a perfect fit for the new virtual casinos. The world can stop by the largest casino in the history of mankind and play a little No-limit with a simple click.
And click they did. Why this contagious popularity? Internet poker games are the latest varient of poker, digitally different, but real poker that requires special poker skills to be successful. Become a skilled poker player and you will be rewarded. Do your undergraduate poker work on the Internet then your post graduate poker work in live games. Your final thesis should involve heads up play with any of the great players I photograph. For today’s dose of 2006 World Series of Poker photographs click below…
