2006 WORLD SERIES OF POKER

Will the Bodog girls be at the 2006 WSOP Expo Show?

World Series of Poker for 2006 is only sixty days away. The mother of all poker tournaments, the WSOP, will start the ’06 run of almost fifty days of continuous major tournament poker action. As in 2005, the big event will be held at the Rio All Suites Resort, a Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. casino/hotel located just off the Las Vegas strip. Consider reserving your seat now for any of the events you’re up to playing. Hotel rooms can become rather scarce during the run of the WSOP and the Rio is the first to fill. Make your travel plans now to be a part of poker history at the sports ‘big show.’

Harrah’s has solved the logistics problems of 2005 with many additional restrooms, better food service closer to the tournament area, smoking confined to areas away from the tournament area and surrounding corridors plus the addition of more than twice as many registration clerks and cashier stations will eliminate the impossibly long lines of 2005. Parking will be better more convenient and outside security will be increased for the expected record crowds. All of the events will be three day affairs, taking out the endurance factor that places an undue disadvantage on some of the players, no more 16 plus hours of a marathon playing session. The event will call a halt at a reasonable hour with players having time away to rest and regroup.

Robert Daily, Rio Resorts Poker Room Manager, has been named as the Tournament Director and he assumes the management duties for the 2006 World Series of Poker. Johnny Grooms will return as the host and MC for the 2006 WSOP. The tournament area will occupy more space this year in the convention area of the Rio with additional tables and a spacious new media area. Additional, the problems from 2005, including the sharing of facilities with a dance competition that included many young kids will; be non-existant in 2006. The poker players took the brunt of the inconvenience when the corridors were closed off because of fears of mixing poker playing degenerates with packs of innocent young girls in tutus had the potential to become the lead story on the 6:00 o’clock news, or as Dr. Pauly of Tao of Poker.com said, “An amber alert waiting to happen.” The hordes of pushy stage mothers believed this mix presented a danger to their ‘gifted’ childred. Apparently they yelled so loud that it convinced Rio officials they should keep the dancing kids segregated from the dirty ole poker people. So much for an improved poker image. Unfortunately the closed corridor had restrooms that suddenly were off limits creating the longest lines I’ve ever seen waiting to get into a men’s restroom.

World Series of Poker could see over 10,000 entrants take seats in the 2006 Main Event. The Tournament area is expected to have 220 tables and the main Event can be expanded to four ‘first day flights’ of 2200 players each. Two days of “day two flights” and another week of narrowing the field to the final table ten will push the Main Event to almost two weeks of play. Win this one and you will become an instant poker legend and a multi-millionaire superstar. Rumors are circulating in the street says everyone at the final table will become a multi-millionaire. Hopefully we have provided some stimulus and motivation for you to be in Vegas beginning June 25. Even if you don’t plan to play in any of the events it is one of the most exciting times to be in Las Vegas. With the current popularity of poker and poker tournaments combined with the trend of poker players becoming poker stars and stars becoming poker players it’s a great time to join the thousands of fans that just come to watch all the action and enjoy the charged air surrounding this annual poker show. Don’t put off making plans, only two months remain until the 2006 WSOP. Plenty of satellites are offered with 2006 WSOP seats so pick your favorite online poker room or held to the nearest casino for one of the live 2006 WSOP qualifier satellites.
