ROBBIE MADDISON SETS RECORD 322 FT 7.5 IN MOTORCYCLE JUMP AT THE RIO
Robbie Maddison sets new world record distance of 322 feet and 7 1/2 inches for motorcycle jump. In a near perfect effort the Australian daredevil made it appear easy. Even though the Las Vegas temperatures were in the low forties and a headwind of 10-12 mph was gusting Maddison flew his special 500 cc Honda motorcycle to the height of a six story building while traveling more than the length of a football field to claim the overall distance record.
Wanting to go more than 333 feet (the length of an Australian football field is 100 meters) the Aussie rider put the helmet back on for a second run. In spite of the quickening winds he again easily cleared the distance but didn’t match his first effort. With the winds growing stronger and shifting to a dangerous crosswind he decided to call it a night. Congratulations to Ronnie for the spectacular feat and forever writing his name into Las Vegas history.
